website? No worries! You really don't need one anymore!

So the question was
how
do we get clients to our local business?
The
normal
method?
- Newspapers ads
- Radio spots
- Local magazine ads
- Printed pens
- Networking groups at 7 am
- Local Chamber of Commerce
- Sponsoring local sports teams
- Entering a float in the local parade
- Customer appreciation days at the store
- Emails to your customers
- Mailings to your customers
- Postcard mailings to everybody locally
- etc....
The only problem with all this?
It is
expensive!
And just how is working for you?
Yep. Same here.
So let's say we are a little more Internet savvy than the average joe
and we
pay Google or some other Internet search engine for 'targeted' ads
to
get traffic
to our website.
(We forgot 'website' in the list
above hmmm?)
And how is that working?
Yea I thought so. Me too. Lost my butt on that one.

You Need To Think About Something For A Minute.
People are sick of being marketed
to.
They want to
find it
themselves.
Like when you go in the store and tell the nice girl asking if you need
help - "Thanks I'm just looking" even though you know
exactly
what you
want.
When I want to find something locally - like a place to fix a vacuum
cleaner - you know what I do?
I open Google and type in -
vacuum cleaner Dallas Ga. I look at the top five
NON-PAID
listings and usually find exactly what I want.
I click on the link that I am attracted to - make sure it is
what I need -
and pick
up the
phone and call the number they give me.
I'll bet you do too.
Let's see - if both you and I look at Google (or MSN or Yahoo or
whatever) when we want to find a local business - then how many of your
prospective clients do that as well?
Lot's of them. In fact, I'd bet the farm on it. (That's a joke - get
it? -'farm' as in horse farm?)
So how does a small business owner/entrepreneur like you and me
get our name
and website in the
top
of the search engines?
Well we can
pay the
'experts' thousands of dollars to build us a
"website" and then thousands more to try and get paid
listings in
the one, two or three position.
(Do you look at the sponsored links? Me
either!)
Or we can do it my way.
Learn it yourself.
I found
out the hard way.
For years I have been paying (well let's not go there as my wife will
probably read this sooner or later)
a lot of money to the gurus to learn how to make a living
selling on
the Internet.
I have a hard drive full of ebooks at $37, $47 and even $99 each! I
have bookmarks to all the best blogs, and the websites that teach you
how to sell online. I have taken 6 month long mentoring programs and
have masterminded with people all over the world (and still do).
I know from personal experience how hard it is to make your mark on the
Internet. Also known is the incredible time it takes to learn something
new and different. (Especially if what you are learning is in
a
completely different
field than yours.)
But isn't that always the
best
way to do it? (well no actually I don't believe that
one either!)
